While puppies are cute to look at when you have one living in your home, your idea of them changes. While they look sweet on the outside, puppies cause havoc wherever they go until they are trained of course. Here are our four must know training tips for new dog owners.

For many new puppy owners, especially those who have never had a dog before, training a puppy can be tricky. It takes lots of hard work, effort and patience, and even after that, there is no guarantee that your puppy will understand.

While some dogs are easy to train and seem to get every new command within a matter of minutes, other puppies take much longer to train. The time it will take to train your new puppy will depend on many factors, one of which is breed.

Regardless of your puppy’s breed, by following these four simple tricks, you can have your dog trained in no time:

1. Give your pup lots of exercise

While not technically a training tip, giving your dog lots of exercise is crucial for successful training. A dog that doesn’t get enough exercise will have lots of pent up energy and will be impossible to train.

To make training your dog easier for yourself, make sure that he is getting an adequate amount of exercise. Even as a puppy, your dog will still need two walks a day, plus plenty of time to roam around the garden.

  1. Leadership is key

Dogs need a guide, so it is important to give them one. Become your dog’s friend and improve your relationship.  Harsh training, shouting and punishment will just teach him to fear humans which will inevitably lead to problems later on.

  1. Consistency is keycedtil1

It’s far too easy to let your dog sleep in your bed, “just this once”, but in doing so you are setting bad habits in place. With dog training, the key to success is consistency.

If you start using one training method, such as the whistle method and buying a dog whistle online, make sure to stick to it. Before you start training your dog, it is a good idea to decide what method of training you want to use.

  1. Start young

You might think that your new puppy is too young to learn to sit, but the sooner you start teaching him, the better.

While it’s never too young to start training your puppy, remember that it may take a young dog longer to catch on to things. So make sure to be extra patient with them.

As you’ll be learning, having a new dog or puppy in the house is incredibly exciting, it is also a lot of hard work. However, as long as your furry companion is properly trained, you shouldn’t have any real problems.
